Husky Pitbull Mix – A Complete Guide To Pitsky

The Siberian Husky Pitbull Mix, also called the Pitbull Husky Mix or Pitsky dog, is a mixed large dog breed that results from the crossbreeding of the Siberian Husky and the American Pitbull terrier.

Although mixed breeds are not exactly “breeds,” they are “mutts,” but for ease, I refer to them as breeds.

Pitsky is an intelligent dog who craves human affection, love, and care. They have a friendly temperament and an eagerness to please their owners.

Pitbull Husky Mix history is not well documented, like many other mixed breeds. It is not clear how this breed first started to exist. It’s possible that the Pitskies existed naturally before the parent dogs were bred intentionally.

Learning about the histories of its parents can give us a hint of the breed’s background.

Siberian Husky

Husky is a category of different dog breeds that were used for pulling vehicles in the Arctic region. A dog used for such purposes is also called a sled dog. Huskies are athletic dogs who can tolerate extremely cold weather.

The Chukchi people, who are decedents of Chukotka sled dogs from Siberia, are believed to have raised the Siberian Husky, a working dog breed like the Canadian Eskimo Dog and the Greenland Dog.

In 1909, the Siberian huskies were brought to Alaska, where they were used in sled racing. Because of their strong sled instincts, these dogs consistently maintained their winning streak in sled races.

The American Kennel Club recognized the Siberian husky in 1930. The breed is known for their resemblance to wolves and is loved for their friendly and human-obsessive temperament.

American Pitbull Terriers

American Pitbull Terrier is a medium-sized dog breed that originated in the U.K. Old English Terriers and Old English Bulldogs are the ancestors of Pitbull Terriers who were used in blood sports in the U.K., which got banned in 1835.

The parent breeds arrived in the U.S. in the 19th century. The two Old English breeds were crossbred to combine their characteristics of bull and terrier to create a new dog, which was named the American Pitbull Terrier.

The United Kennel Club recognized the American Pitbull Terrier in 1898, but the American Kennel Club has not recognized it. Pitbulls are suitable as companion dogs, working dogs, therapy dogs, and police dogs.

Pitbull Husky Mix – Behavior

When it comes to mixed breeds, predicting their exact behavior is something out of our hands, because mixing two breeds almost always results in dogs with significantly varying characteristics.

Your pitbull husky mix can take more after their husky parent or the pitbull parent. But even if they take care of either of their parents, their behavior can still be unpredictable. However, we can generalize their behavior and say that they can be a pack of various notable traits, such as:

  • Friendly
  • Highly active
  • Extremely loyal
  • Fierce and stubborn
  • Leaders-of-the-pack, independent thinkers

So Pitsky can be friendly and loyal. They will dare go through anything to abide by their owner’s side. But Husky Bulldog Mix, in particular, may not be aggressive if they are trained well.

At the same time, considering their active and stubborn behavior, Pitbull Husky Mix is not suitable for families or individuals who don’t have much dog experience. Otherwise, training the Pitsky will be a hard struggle.

They are suitable for active families and energetic individuals who are experienced in training dogs. Another habit Pitbull Husky Mix can get into is trying to become the leader of the pack. This is due to the independent nature of huskies.

Pitsky can excel at various games, such as:

  • Guarding
  • Hunting
  • Sledding
  • Racing

Individual Husky Pit Mix dogs differ in behavior and what they are good at. A Pitsky who takes after his Husky parent more than the Pitbull may be better at sledding than guarding because Siberian Huskies have a knack for sledding but not guarding.

Behavior with Children, Strangers, and Other Animals

Generally, the Pitskies are friendly with kids. They can tolerate kids’ behavior, but supervision is always needed. Kids should be taught how to play with the dog, despite the dog’s friendliness.

The Pitskies may show signs of aggression towards other animals because of their Pitbull parents. But they can be socialized and trained to tolerate other animals and strangers as well.

Some Pitskies may appear friendlier towards strangers than others because their Husky parents are not usually aggressive towards strangers.

The Pitbull Husky Mix is a mixed breed that isn’t recognized by a widely accepted kennel club like the American Kennel Club, so there isn’t a standardized appearance for Pitskies just yet.

The general characteristics are that a Pitsky can stand up to 16–25 inches at the shoulders and weigh 13–36 kg on average. These dogs are bound to resemble their parents; that’s why they combine the physical appearance of both dogs, such as the body, coat, color, etc.

Their Husky side of physical strength means they can tolerate fairly cold climates and put in work.

Pitsky dogs can take colors from both parents, typically black, gray, brown, brindle, and their mixtures. This dog features a short coat, allowing them to shed less, which means they are somewhat people-with-allergies friendly.

Husky Pitbull Mix – Grooming

The Pitsky can either have the coat of their Pitbull parent or their Husky parent. Suppose they inherit the Husky coat; you can expect a fair share of shedding that’ll require adequate brushing to minimize the shedding.

On the other hand, a Pitsky with the Pitull’s coat will be shedding relatively little due to their short hair. Brushing them every few weeks should do the job.

Training and Socialization

Training a Pitbull husky mix can be easy because they are intelligent, just like both parents. They also tend to be stubborn, like Pitbulls, but daily training and socialization can gradually turn them into wonderful dogs.

A good way to train your husky pitbull mix is to start early, when they are young. Puppies are quick to develop the behaviors they are taught. Another good practice is to create a sense of reward for your Pitsky after they accomplish a task.

Pitskies need lots of training to thrive. They are high-energy dogs, which makes sense because both their parents, Siberian Husky and Pitbull, are working dogs. A lack of exercise can be life-threatening.

Daily, 90 minutes of exercise can keep your Husky Pit Mix fit and happy. Some Pitskies may need exercise more or less than this, and some will need it more vigorously than others.

If your dog has health concerns, it is better to visit a vet and seek professional help before crafting your dog’s daily exercise schedule.

Health Consederation

Most Pitsky dogs should be healthy since their parents are also healthy breeds. But there are some diseases that Pitbull Husky Mix can inherit from their parents or develop on their own, like obesity, allergies, knee problems, hip dysplasia, hypothyroidism, and hair loss.

If your pup is diagnosed with a disease, it becomes crucial to monitor their exercise and make the necessary changes. Poor exercise will make some diseases, like hip dysplasia, more painful.

Knee problems or hair loss may not be serious health concerns, but issues like obesity and hip dysplasia shouldn’t be ignored, and veterinarian help should be sought immediately.

The Pitbull Husky Mix is a blend of two mesmerizing dog breeds: the Siberian Husky and the American Pitbull Terrier. The Pitsky make wonderful pets with their loyalty, intelligence, and affection for their owners.

A Pitsky dog can stand up to 16–25 inches at the shoulders and weigh anywhere between 13 and 36 kg. Piskies are friendly dogs that seek attention and love. They can be taught to behave well with children as well as other animals.

Husky Pitbull Mix behavior can still be unpredictable due to the nature of mixing two breeds. They thrive in an active environment where they get ample exercise and mental stimulation. While Pitsky is generally a healthy breed, some Pitbull Husky Mix can develop or be predisposed to certain health concerns.
